Update JRE pada Ubuntu

Telah kita ketahui bahwa Java merupakan bahasa yang multiplatform, yang bisa berjalan di banyak sistem operasi. Sekali membuat program, maka bisa dijalankan di mana saja, asalkan di sistem operasi "induk" terdapat Java Environmentnya.

Untuk instalasi JDK (Java Development Kit) atau JRE (Java Runtime Environment) di linux, mungkin teman-teman agak mengalami kesulitan, karena pada beberapa distro linux, misalkan ubuntu, walaupun kita sudah menginstall JRE, tapi JRE sistem tidak otomatis terupdate. Berikut cara mengupdate JRE di ubuntu:

1. misal kita download JDKnya saja sekalian, biar bisa untuk develop Java. Mis yang kita donlot bernama: jdk6u3.bin di  forlder /home/arwan.
2. Buka terminal dan arahkan ke folder dimana master jdk berada
3. ketikkan: $ chmod +x jdk6u3.bin
4. jalankan file tersebut: $ ./jdk6u3.bin
5. Tekan enter sampai EULAnya (End User License Agreement) habis, lalu ketikkan "yes"
6. Update konfigurasi java, ketikkan:
    $ sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/java java /usr/lib/jdk1.6.0_06/bin/java 300
    $ sudo update-alternatives --config java
7. Untuk mengecek apakah java runtime environment yang baru sudah terupdate, ketikkan:
    $ java --version
8. Beres, dah....

NB: pada langkah ke-6, silahkan menyesuaikan versi jdk dengan melihat di /usr/lib :D

I love coding, especially Java. Because Android apps is written in Java, I would love to make one as well. Unfortunately, when I tried to install Android Studio on my Ubuntu yesterday, I got this error message: 'tools.jar' seems to be not in Android Studio classpath. Please ensure JAVA_HOME points to JDK rather than JRE. When I google on this error, there are so many websites and forums discuss about this error as well as the solutions. However, in linux (or ubuntu in my case), sometime we have different environment so that the solution will not always work (sometimes we have to do another thing before or after that solution). And this also happen in this case. Here are what I did then: 1. Know what exactly the problem is: the problem is that the JAVA_HOME in my system did not point to JDK. Instead, it points to a JRE.
